I have a friend who wants to sell a 3444 loader with a backhoe attachment. I am nervous, I don't know anything about them.

The previous owner had it since the 70's and played with it on his property. The hour meter is missing and no one is sure how many actual hours are on it. The only thing that looks International is the emblems and gauges, was it made by someone else? It's a glow plug diesel, but it's not the 504 engine or the 4 cyl German.

It's a hydra-shuttle shift with two petals like the industrial hydros, but it doesn't look like a small chassis hydro center section. He is going to put the starter back in it so I can drive it tomorrow, but I would like everyone's opinion, I need to make a decision one way or the other. The king pins on the front axle are sloppy, some sloppy bushings on the hoe arm, and various welds on the loader. Can anyone tell me anything about them? What engine and chassis is it?

Is that a 2000 or 3000 loader? Are they hydrostatic drive?

What's it worth? 3444 was 3414 was B414 Built in england and louisville KY. BD154 4 cyl dsl glow plugged for cold star also do not carry ether in your pocket anywhere close to it.It is a Hydra Shuttle trans. With the internals built by FUNK Reverseomatic with torque converter. They were a good machine but parts are getting scarce,How scarce? I have enough equipment that I can't get parts for. I have found if they are yellow the parts are even harder to find.

Would you get parts through CNH? What should I look/listen/feel for when I drive it? The shuttle / converter parts (Funk Reverse -O-Matic ) was i believe bought out by Cat years ago and was not in the business of supplying parts for old machines but some of their parts would match up.Main thing with Shuttle was that forward and reverse shoud engage at idle speed with 1st function should be engagement of Fwd.

Rev taking place before any RPM increase. This was all adjustable from the outside.

Otherwise it was too hard on the internal parts. Also the swing top mount splined area werars out after time and I am told the swing shaft is over 2000.00 if Dresser still supplies them. The wear rate can be reduced by swinging with the load close in to the machine,The engine parts are still avail. Thru Case IH dealers. Differentials and internal parts should be readily avail thru Salvage yards as the drive train is same as 3414- 424 - 444 - 2424 - B 414 and some others. So I bought it for $1600 and it is now a fixture in my driveway. A friend of mine is handling the estate for his neighbor and that's how he got involved.

He has used it himself last summer and said everything worked, BUT when he dropped it off at my house I found that the engine was locked up. We have been friends for a long time and I know he isn't trying to steer me wrong, he was just as surprised as I was when I told him. I'm guessing I bought it AS-IS/where-is, so it's my own stupidity for not taking a battery and trying it out before forking over money. I told him this afternoon so maybe something good will come of it.I feel really stupid because I always check things out for myself, but the second I don't I end up in this situation. Should I be stuck with this, what are my options?

Has anyone had any dealing with these engines? Is this worth putting an engine in? So before the big snow last week I drug the loader into the shop and let it warm up. I pulled the glow plugs out and turned it over with a pry bar against the flywheel, water squirted out of #4 cylinder. Once I made a few revolutions I changed the oil, decided to put the glow plugs back in, and it started right up!!

I was shocked and relieved! Once I started check fluids more disappointment came.Between the drive side and transmission I drained out 20 gallons of milky nastiness that smelled like sweaty feet. After it drained over night I dumped 5 gallons in and tried to flush out all hydraulic system.

After a failed first attempt and draining out more milk, I ended up taking all the hoses off the all the cylinders and cycling them one way at a time in order to squeeze as much of the milk as I could. I think I have 95% of it cleaned. I put some used but good hy-trans in the rear end and filled the system back up again. The torque converter drive system is a real bear to get flushed. I ran lots and lots of oil through and got it decently a darker oil color. I'll have to keep working to make sure that is flushed.

All in all it seems like an ok machine. I don't know if it really is or I'm just telling myself that so I feel better about owning it.

The splines are sloppy for the kingpin on the hoe arm, I'm not really certain how to tighten that up, but I could see that causing major problems in the future.I was suprised to find the manual ONLY covers the tractor, the 3141 back hoe is a separate unit and hydraulic system. I'll have to dig around on line and see if I can find a manual for that too. I had a 3414, basically the same thing except mine was a gas with a BC144.

Get a parts book from Ebay as some of the parts are used on ag tractors. Things such as brake discs, etc can be found by P/N.I have a 3616 with the 3141 hoe. It's a pretty good hoe except the spline problem you're already aware of.

Mine came all welded up and it's held for years.I never found any water in the hydraulics of either machine and they always lived outside so I've no idea how it got in. I bought a 786 that was full of water so go figure. The shuttle shift transmission, if it's the same as the 3616, has a filter in the side under a plate. Wix lists it. The one I changed on mine was likely original '70s. 3444 was 3414 was B414 Built in england and louisville KY. I've always wondered where I'd get clutches since my inquiry at an Komatsu dealer got a blank stare.Do you know of a source against the day when the shuttle shift fails? 3444 was 3414 was B414 Built in england and louisville KY.

What's it worth?Yes we all have felt that way at one time or another. But that is a unique rig that everyone on the block will ask to use at one time or another. As far as not knowing much about it. Well we all gotta crawl before we can walk - you'll get there. These guys are real good at what they do, and if you don't peeve them off they are more than willing to help.
